Lillian McCabe passed peacefully, surrounded by her family, on May 14, 2023. She was born in Hackensack, NJ on August 20, 1928 to Bernice and Thomas Curley, who had emigrated from Poland in the late 19th century. She was the youngest child born to a large family, which included four brothers and two sisters, all of whom predeceased her.
She married William McCabe on April 18, 1953, and they spent most of their life together in East Brunswick, NJ. A homemaker, she raised three children: William McCabe III, Peter McCabe, and Barbara Lynch. Her first husband, known as Bill, died in 1991. Several years later, she married Michael Opidee and relocated to Brewster, Massachusetts. Mr. Opidee predeceased her as well.
Lillian is survived by her three children and their spouses, Janice McCabe and Scott Lynch; four grandchildren, William McCabe IV, James McCabe, Kara Silva, and Tyler Lynch; and one great-granddaughter, Marley Lynch.
A private ceremony was attended by her immediate family, and she was interred at Holy Cross Burial Park alongside Mr. McCabe, under the direction of The BRUNSWICK MEMORIAL HOME, East Brunswick. She will be remembered for her green thumb; her sense of humor; her love of cooking (especially when other family members were not in her way in the kitchen); and, most of all, her generosity of spirit.
