EAST BRUNSWICK - HENRY C. MCMANUS passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 78 years old.
Born in Newark, to Henry and Mary (Murray) McManus, he resided in Newark, NJ and Old Bridge, NJ, before settling down in East Brunswick for 37 years.
Henry was a Field Service Engineer at Beckman Instruments in Newark, where he worked for over 30 years.
He was a U.S Army veteran during the Vietnam War, having served as a Tank Operator, in Germany. When he returned home, he earned electric, refrigeration and HVAC licenses. These skills stayed with him his whole life and allowed him to create, fix, and build almost anything he put his mind to. He was never without his toolbox nearby.
In his leisure time, Henry enjoyed RVing and traveling with his beloved wife, Myra. He was a history buff and loved watching many historical documentaries. Affectionately nicknamed "Papa" he enjoyed yearly summer family vacations down the shore and spending quality time with his four grand boys. He could always be counted on to help his family and friends and to enjoy a good Irish whiskey to celebrate special occasions.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Myra; his sons, Michael McManus and his wife, Stefanie, and James McManus; his daughters, Erin Scott and her husband, Terrance, and Christine Stiansen and her husband, Thomas and his cherished grandchildren, Bryson and Connor Scott, and Nolan and Nathaniel Stiansen. He is also survived by his sister, Roseann Thiry along with cherished nephews and cousins. Henry was the best husband, father, and grandfather and will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
Family and friends may visit on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, at The BRUNSWICK MEMORIAL HOME, 454 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 1st, at 9:30, at St. Thomas The Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 333 NJ-18, Old Bridge, NJ 08857. Cremation will be private. For directions, please visit our "Services" page.

My deepest condolences to everyone - Henry was such a nice man, great friends with my parents Bill "Hamie" and Judy Hamilton - they all grew up together in Newark. I am so glad I was able to get out to dinner with him, Myra and my late uncle Andy a few years back as it was great to catch up. Wishing comfort and peace to his family - may he rest in peace.

It is hard for an obituary to capture all the great contributions Henry has made in his life.
I can speak for many kids when I say that Henry was like a second father to me. He was equally quick with words of encouragement as he was with kind words of correction. A correction that I got from him many times growing up.
Of all the great memories I have of Henry, the most meaningful was from days after my brother past away. After the funeral, we had a wake. As good manners would dictate, I stood at the door and greeted all of the people who had come to pay respects to my brother and his family. When Henry came up the stairs to shake my hand, he gave me a big hug and said “Any time you want, come to my house. I have a bottle of Jameson waiting for us. I love you Paddy.”
It was a short, sweet, comment. But I have carried it with me for years. I showed up at his door a few days later. I didn’t really want to talk. I just wanted to be somewhere I felt comfortable and decompress. Again, he gave me a big hug, and we sat and drank Jameson, in silence, until I fell asleep on his couch.
I will miss Henry greatly. Although I may not be related to him, he will always be my family.
To the McManus’s, I am deeply sorry for your loss. I love you all.

Dear Myra and family,
I was saddened to learn of Henry's death. I had known him for about 60 years. Among what I remember is his warmth and good graces as a host, along with you Myra, when Steve and I, with Tom, visited your home a few times.
May time heal your hart.
Requiescat in pace.
Affectionately,
Bern and Steve
