WAXAHACHIE - JAMES H. ABBOTT was born in Mobile, Alabama. He moved around the United States once he left school, joining the Merchant Marines and then the Air Force. While being station at, Camp Kilmer in New Jersey, he met his soul mate and the love of his life, Margaret Pope at a Halloween Party. On January 2, 1949, they were married. They had 7 children, whom he was always involved with and supported as much as anyone could have asked. As an involved parent and family man, he worked very hard to made sure he had time to coach his children's sport teams, as well as use their weekends to go all over New Jersey to see the sights and spend quality time together. One of his favorite spots was a cabin in North Jersey, where he spent much time with his family.

Mr. Abbott was a parishioner of, St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in New Brunswick, as he was active in the Holy Name Society.

Before retiring in 1998, he worked at the East Brunswick Plumbing Supply and prior to that, James also was a carpenter for, Robert Morrison Construction. Upon retiring, James then moved to North Myrtle Beach, SC; Ocala, FL; Martinez, GA, then settling in Waxahachie, TX.

James was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Pope Abbott; his sons; James H. Abbott III, Mark H. Abbott and Bruce J Abbott; his parents, James and Juliett; his sister, Joycie and her husband, Clyde Moore; and his granddaughter, Kirsten Abbott.

Surviving are his children, Coleen Ferguson and her husband, John, of Gillette, Wyoming, Michael Abbott and his wife, Donna, of Ocala, Florida, Eugenia-Marie Abbott "Genie", of Waxahachie, Texas and Marleen Huggins and her husband, John, of Maricopa, Arizona; his sister, Darlene Bishop and her husband, James Bishop; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Many knew him as Jim, Dad, Uncle Jim and Pop-Pop. He was a kind, caring man to all and tried very hard to assist and support anyone in need. Jim married into a wonderful German/Irish family when he married Margaret, and their extended family was very important to him and there was nothing he would not do for any of them.
