On April 13, 2021, RUPERTO "KIRO" FIGUEROA, JR., the keeper of his family traditions, the take no nonsense and tell it like it is Patriarch of the Figueroa Family for the last time, strapped on his boots, packed his guitar, jumped on his Harley and rode off into the sunset to take his place in the Kingdom of our Heavenly Father. He was 62 years old. Despite it being a hard battle, his final days were filled with laughter, love and surrounded by those he loved most, and when he decided it was time, he wasn't alone.

Kiro was born in Perth Amboy, raised in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico, and would ultimately settle in Iselin where he planted the roots that nourished three generations of family members. His parents were Ruperto Figueroa Sr. and Maria Antonia Ramirez. He is survived by his daughter, April, her husband, Richie, and their children Rico, KiKi and Mia; his son, Ruperto III; his siblings, Rosemary and Marisol; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Kiro had tremendous pride of being a boiler operator of CP Chemicals, Inc., of Sewaren where he worked for approximately 17 years. He then spent the next 15 years with Woodbridge Township Waste Water Management before his retirement.

The simplest pleasures of life brought Kiro great joy, spending time with his children and grandchildren, rounding up our crazy family to lead a parranda every Christmas and New Year or hosting his annual Father's Day pig roast. He loved listening to old Spanish songs or rock and roll then trying to figure out the chords, and he loved riding his Harley.

His family imagines that's exactly how he showed up to the Pearly Gates. On a roaring Harley, guitar in hand, expecting a cold beer and a warm embrace. Those of us who knew him best, know he wouldn't want it any other way.

There's no better way of sending off our beloved Tio than a quote from a band that I know he enjoyed, Los Lonely Boys:

"Tu que estas en alto cielo, echame tu bendicion

Cause I know there's a better place than this place I'm living...How far is heaven?

And I just got to have some faith and just keep on giving...How far is heaven? Lord can you tell me, how far is heaven, cause I just gotta know how far."
