Born in St. Petersburg, Russia, he immigrated to the United States and settled in East Brunswick.
Ilia was a self-employed automotive mechanic, working in Somerset.
Survived by his wife, Abby (Drolet); his children, Brooke (step-daughter) and Jacob; his father, Peter and his wife, Margarita, of West Orange; his mother, Tataina (Gaponenko), and his brother Dmitriy, both of Russia.

Ilia was a good, kind man. He cared deeply for Abby, Brooke, and his family. We were lucky to have had him in our family. He is deeply missed.
