When I was a teenager, Ed (then, Mr. Varick) was one of those Dad's that you had just as much fun talking to and laughing with as your friend. I will never forget hanging out with him and Carolyn in their home, or at the Middlesex County Fair talking and laughing together. One of my favorite memories of Ed was when I was in HS and I tried pulling a (friendly) prank call on him. I intentionally left him a voicemail pretending to be an employee at Sears, informing him that he ordered a hammer and never picked it up. Not many days after, I was hanging out at the Varick's house and Ed, in his typical dry humor-straight face fashion, told me that "some punk kid" left him a prank call, but that he was currently having the police trace the call. I was genuinely scared. Not many days later we were laughing again at how he got me better than I got him. Wonderful man. Wonderful father. Wonderful husband. Sacrificially served his community. My deepest condolences to the Varick family.

Love,
Jack McNeil
