EAST BRUNSWICK - BRIAN M. CARNEY passed away on Friday, January 10, 2020 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. He was 56 years old.
Born in Hackensack, he resided in Ridgewood and New Brunswick before moving to East Brunswick in 1999.
Brian was a Paramedic with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for 30 years where he also acted as the Disaster Preparedness Coordinator. Brian was a former member of the Middlesex County SWAT Team and Office of Emergency Management. Brian was a founding member of the New Jersey EMS Task Force and responded to various disasters including the World Trade on 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina. As a volunteer Brian sat on the Board of East Brunswick Baseball League and coached Basketball for East Brunswick Fastbreak Basketball League. He was former Committee Chairperson for Cub Scout Pack 223. In his early career as a first responder Brian volunteered with Glen Rock and Ridgewood Rescue Squads, East Brunswick Independent Fire Company and Community Fire Department in Franklin Township, NJ.
He was predeceased by his parents, Michael J. and Eileen M. Carney and his sister, Mary Carney.
Surviving are his wife of 21 years, Lisa (Kercheval) Carney, two sons, Daniel and Scott, both of East Brunswick, two sisters; Peggy Zaccaria, and her husband, Ralph, of Howell; and Kathy Keiner, and her husband, Stuart, of Columbia, SC; his Mother-in-Law, Ruth Kercheval of Toms River; niece Michala Keiner and nephews Justin, Toby and Liam Keiner and Thomas and Timothy Zaccaria.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at 8:45 am, at The BRUNSWICK MEMORIAL HOME, 454 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick, with a 9:30 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bartholomew RC Church, East Brunswick. Cremation will be private.
