DONNA (FICK) MALLORY
Donna Jean, as she was called in her youth, died on Friday, August 2, 2019. Beautiful Mom was so talented and always full of ideas. She was hard-working, kind & generous at including everyone in any celebration. Her motto was "The more the merrier"! Many close friends and neighbors were just thought of as family. They would pop in unannounced and were always welcomed. She loved company! She staunchly supported of all of her families endeavors and was thrilled to be a grandma to Kyle Plaskon. She loved watching him as a baby until they moved away but relished his story telling abilities and watching him grow to be an accomplished young man.
Donna lovingly cared for their gardens, even while walking with her cane, along with her hubby Jim, until their bodies would not support that joy. Her smile shined even though she may have been in pain. She was a member of the Arts Commission and a long standing member of the East Brunswick Garden Club, holding all the officers positions though out the years. Her love of horticulture and flower arranging won her many Blues, Reds and a few Tri-color award ribbons, in competition.
At the age of 88, Donna still kept in touch with friends from grade school in Ohio. Her once meticulous hand written notes had become a bit shaky, but the words and sentiment were still true. Every Christmas she would labor over a newsy Christmas greeting, sometime adding a photo and many times cajoling Diane to provide art work to adorn the letter and Sandy to print out address labels. It was quite a production. She also liked to write poems for friends and family, for special occasions and just for fun. I believe her favorite was "The Way of the Road".
Always the ultimate hostess, whether it was she and dad or a party for 50, her skills made every occasion special. Everything had to be just so! Trying new recipes . . . some to never be tried again and others becoming family favorites like: "White Lasagna, Hamburg Noodle Bake, Crab Dip, Cheese Balls and homemade Custard." Her favorite libation was Blackberry wine spritzers with Vernor's Ginger Ale, of course! I'm glad Mom & Dad traveled so much while they were able. They'd drive everywhere, taking their friends or relatives along for the journey, having many good times. The farthest they traveled was to Hawaii for a fantastic jaunt then stopped to see her cousin Twyla in California.
I know Mom is no longer in pain. She is with her beloved Jim and God, both are now at peace. The heavens got a bit brighter now that, "Big Honey and Little Honey" are back together again having new adventures. She was a wonderful soul who will always be loved and missed.
Donna was predeceased by her husband, Jim, in 2017. She is survived by her son, James W. Mallory, Jr., of North Brunswick; two daughters, Sandra Peterson and her husband, Rob, of East Brunswick and Diane Plaskon and her husband, Don, of Poland, Ohio, and her grandson, Kyle Plaskon of Pittsburgh.
