Honor your wishes, protect your family
It feels good knowing your plans are in order. Planning ahead provides you peace of mind that your personal wishes are known and protects your family from having to make tough decisions during a time of extreme stress and grief.
Advance planning allows you to carefully consider all of your choices, and to discuss them with your family. Without exception, those families who have made advance plans have told us how much easier it made things when the death occurred.
Once advance plans are made, only one phone call is needed when the death occurs – the funeral home is able to then start putting into place the family’s wishes immediately.
Advance planning includes the following:
- Listing biographical and family information for the legal documents and obituary
- Deciding on service details, merchandise selections, and reviewing the costs attributed to these selections.
- Prepayment of the advance planning. Please note while prepayment is beneficial, it is not necessary to prepay in order to preplan.
We offer complimentary appointments either at our facility, or in your home, whichever is more convenient for you. At our home, you will meet with a licensed funeral director who will carefully explain your options, and work with you to prepare the arrangements that will be most meaningful to you and your family.
Your pre-arrangements are completely transferable to any other firm, anywhere. Of course, many times when someone moves, they still intend to come back “home” for burial, in which case your arrangements can remain intact with us. We can easily accommodate a transfer back home from virtually anywhere within the US and foreign countries. If you move and decide you will not be coming back for burial, then you are entitled to a full refund* of your entire principal paid, plus all interest earned. All we need is a written request – it’s that easy.
*If the prepaid arrangements were funded under a social service program, agencies mandate those funds can only be used for funeral purposes and may not be refunded for any other purpose.
Talk of a Lifetime
You talk about everything, but have you had the talk? It’s time to have the conversation on how you want to be remembered. Talk of a Lifetime helps you through this important conversation, about life and what matters most. Having discussions with your loved ones provides peace of mind when it’s time to commemorate a life. It can make the difference of a lifetime.
One of the best benefits to planning ahead is the impact on your family. In planning your wishes ahead of time, you relieve the burden from your loves ones. In a time of grief and stress, making very difficult decisions are the last thing that anyone wants. Second guessing what you wanted creates extra stress. Preplanning your funeral makes emotional and financial sense. It is one of the greatest gifts you can give to those you love most.
No two people are alike, and neither have to be their funerals. By making your funeral arrangements yourself, you can customize them to fit your preferences. Advance planning allows for you to plan an event that celebrates life, choosing your own venue, music, disposition choice and desired final resting place. These decisions are made best with our help as funeral professionals, at a time without stress and grieving.
Besides knowing the arrangements are absolutely complete, we offer a valuable “Pre-Arrangement Agreement,” which protects your family from having to pay more for the funeral home charges later on. This agreement states that the interest earned on our account will cover any future cost increases on funeral home charges, and if it does not, the funeral home will absorb the difference. Please note this does not include Cash Disbursements (outside party charges), such as cemetery fees, etc. They are not part of this agreement, since we have no control over these fees. Few funeral homes offer this type of agreement and protection, but ours does. This is one of the most valuable reasons for making your prepaid arrangements with Brunswick Memorial Home.
Please note the funds set aside for prepaid funerals are placed into a specially designed interest bearing FDIC trust. Check out the NJ Prepaid Funeral Trust Fund. The trust fund is fully revocable. Should you move, change your mind, or simply need the money, you can get a full refund of your principal plus all of the interest earned, without any penalties. (The only exceptions to this rule are arrangements made for Medicaid recipients, where the funds must be, by law, irrevocable). New Jersey has the strictest consumer protection laws in the U.S. regarding prepaid funerals, and we are required by law to place 100% of the funds you set aside into this insured trust fund – the funeral home receives nothing until the services are actually held.
