EUGENE B. CAROLAN, affectionately known by everyone as Pop, died Saturday, September 9, 2017, at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was 81.
Born in Dublin, Ireland, Eugene came to the US by way of New York Harbor in 1955. He lived in Staten Island, NY before moving to NJ. He resided in Monroe Township with his family for 46 years.
A US Army Veteran, he served during the Korean War from 1956 to 1962.
Prior to retiring in 2002, he was a Plant Manager for Grief Brothers Corporation, Spotswood, where he worked for 48 years. Aside from work and his family, Eugene enjoyed raising and racing pigeons in a local club as well as spending many years as an active member of the Metedeconk River Yacht Club. Most of all Eugene enjoyed spending time with his family,
particularly his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Noreen 'Bonnie' Carolan; his five children, Noreen F. Genthe and her husband Peter, of Helmetta, Brigid K. Green and her husband David, of Lillington, NC, Dr, Owen J. Carolan and his wife Nancy, of Westfield, Sheila K. Hoff and her husband Joel, of Berkeley Heights, and Eileen P. Bauer and her husband Brian, of Statesville, NC; his brother, Jeremiah C. Carolan of NYC; three sisters, Theresa Strong of Manchester, Marie Brennan of Tipperary and Loretta Niland of Birr; a brother-in-law, Charles J. Smith Jr. and his wife Sheryl, of TX; numerous nieces and nephews throughout the US, Ireland, England, Wales, Scotland, and Tasmania; and 24 grandchildren, Victoria Dudek, Amy Wilchek and her husband Curt, Katie Grace Dudek, Phillip Dudek, Francesca Genthe, Jacqueline Genthe, Sarah Bartley, Theresa Genthe, Mary Genthe, Alleysha Genthe, Tyler Brooke Genthe, Owen Carolan, Seamus Carolan, Maggie Carolan, Finn Carolan, Tara Hoff, Leena Hoff, Sean Bauer, Nolan Bauer, Shannon Bauer, Colin Bauer, Kevin Bauer, and Erin Bauer.
He was predeceased by his siblings Patrick Carolan, Nancy Brennan and Helena Duff; his mother Helena Delaney Carolan and father Owen J. Carolan.
Mr. Carolan was a communicant of Nativity of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church, Monroe Township.
Arrangements were entrusted to The BRUNSWICK MEMORIAL HOME, East Brunswick. Cremation was private.
A memorial Mass will be held on Monday, September 18, 9:30 AM at Nativity of Our Lord RC Church, Monroe Township. Interment will follow at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to St. Jude Children's Cancer Center or St. Barnabas Burn Center.
