Rod J. Stahley

October 19, 1969 - February 8, 2017

MONROE TOWNSHIP - ROD J. STAHLEY passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at home. He was 47.

Born in New Brunswick, he resided in Millstone Township before moving to Monroe Township 3 years ago.

Rod was the owner of Emerald Landscaping in Millstone, NJ, for 15 years. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman. He was also an avid lover of the bands Styx and the Alan Parsons Project. Rod was truly one of a kind and downright hilarious. He loved family, friends and a good time. He was a shirt-off-his-back kind of guy to everyone.

Surviving are his son, Hunter, and daughter, Megan "Mugs", both of Millstone; his former wife, Samantha of Millstone; his parents, James and Maryanne Stahley of Monroe Township; grandmother, Alice Stahley of Spotswood; his brother, Drew and his wife, Ali, of Scotch Plains; nephew, Cooper, and niece, Olivia.

Cremation will be private.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to The BRUNSWICK MEMORIAL HOME (www.brunswickmemorialhome.com), East Brunswick.

Words cannot express my sorrow about Rod's passing. He and I were both very glad to have reconnected after so many years. Unfortunately, it took something like his car accident for it to happen.

Despite only seeing each other once in 30 years, it was like we had never lost touch. We were best friends in junior high, which happened after we got in a fight in science class. All I can remember is he had me in a bear hug from behind, and I was smacking him on the head with the back of my hand. It was so comical that we both just bust out laughing.

After that we became very good friends, and we were together almost every day. Whether it was riding dirt bikes, fishing, canoeing, crabbing, hunting, trapping for muskrats, or just hanging out in the woods, we always had a great time together.

He introduced me to a lot of things I may have never known otherwise. Experiences that have shaped who I am and that will always be a part of me.

I just wish that he knew how many people's lives he touched, and how much they all loved him.

Hunter and Megan, I hope you know how much your dad loved you, and how proud he was of the both of you. He would always say what good kids you are and how amazed he was at how smart, you are and how amazing you both do in school. You definitely didn't get that from him.

Rod, you and your family will always be in my thoughts and prayers. I hope your soul finds the peace that it couldn't seem to find in life. I miss you buddy!
